Southern Water is the fastest growing of the 10 WaSCs in the UK, with approximately 100 water treatment works and 370 sewerage treatment works supplying over 2.3 million people and providing wastewater services to approximately 4.3 million people.
Southern Water's revenues are regulated by Ofwat. The current price determination applies for the 5 year period ending March 2010. 99% of its EBITDA is generated by the regulated business.
Southern Water has the largest capital program (as a proportion of regulated capital value (RCV)) for the current regulatory period of any WASC. Growth in RCV is being driven by the requirements of the European Union (EU) environmental requirements under a number of EU Directives, in particular the Water Directive, and the population growth in the south east England.
