Inexus
Key Facts:
- One of the leading Independent Gas Transporter (IGT) and Independent Distribution Network Operator (IDNO) in the United Kingdom
- Provides 'last mile' of gas, electricity, water and fibre connections to new dwellings
- 85% owned by CIF
- Acquired in August 2005
Inexus is involved in the design, construction, ownership, operation and maintenance of utility networks and associated site infrastructure, serving new housing developments throughout the UK mainland.
Inexus is the leading independent utility and infrastructure provider in the UK and focuses primarily on the new house build market with over 620,000 utility connections obtained since 1993. Inexus recently expanded its multi-utility strategy to include water, fibre and district heating connections in addition to its existing services of gas and electricity connections, making it the only independent operator to offer all five bundled utilities to developers.
Inexus has broadly divided its activities between the regulated ownership of utility network assets and the unregulated provision of utility infrastructure and asset management services. The Inexus group of companies owns assets at 8,000 sites across England, Wales and Scotland.
Inexus' revenue is derived primarily from the ownership of the 'last mile' of gas pipes, electricity cables, water pipes and fibre-optic cables that connect the utility distribution networks to the residential (or retail) customers. As revenue is based on an 'availability charge,' Inexus has no exposure to the volume of gas used by the retail customer and the income is based on what is known as a daily tariff.
