Macro Musing: Federal Budget 2026-27

At 7:30pm on Tuesday 12 May 2026, the Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, released the Government’s 2026-27 Budget.

 

The Budget features a number of measures that may impact your advice for both pre and post retiree clients, including aged care clients, and these measures are the focus of this analysis.

 

Key measures announced include:

  • Capital Gains Tax changes,
  • Reforms to negative gearing of residential property investments,
  • Minimum tax on discretionary trusts,
  • Tax relief measures,
  • Aged Care changes.

 

It is important to note that at this time any proposed measures are not yet law and could change through implementation.
